Airlines in India raise fares on rising fuel costs
NEW DELHI/MUMBAI (Reuters) - Low-cost carrier SpiceJet and state-run Air India are raising fares following rising jet-fuel prices, while Jet Airways has set minimum airfares for certain routes, officials said. SpiceJet is increasing airfares by 300 rupees on the short sectors and by 550 rupees on the long sectors, effective June 20, Chief Financial Officer Partha Sarathi Basu told Reuters over the telephone. Mumbai: The owner of the country’s largest private carrier, Jet Airways (India) Ltd, is taking desperate measures to boost revenue and cut costs. 
MUMBAI: Emirates Airlines is augmenting its services to India with 18 new weekly flights, starting July 1. With this, Emirates’ will have 132 flights per week between India and Dubai, the highest for any international carrier operating out of this country. 
NEW DELHI: Low-cost carrier SpiceJet on Wednesday said that the airline is expected to make a total loss of Rs 80-100 crore in the current fiscal, up from Rs 70 crore in the last financial year, due to higher ATF price. 
The Mumbai Police have arrested a pilot with Indigo airlines in connection with the suicide of an air hostess, Sucheta Anand, on Sunday. An FIR was also registered some time ago after the 25-year-old air hostesses’ parents alleged that her husband and in-laws used to torture her. Sucheta was found hanging in a five star hotel in Mumbai.

New Delhi, June 11: Indicating that the airline industry is in a major crisis, the Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said on Wednesday he did not want any airline to shut down due to the rise in fuel price. The minister was speaking after meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek a cut in government taxes on air turbine fuel (ATF). 
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officers had to arrest a drunken passenger after he created a ruckus at the GoAir airline counter at the Santa Cruz airport early on Sunday morning. One of the airline staff suffered minor injuries in the process.

NEW DELHI: Paramount Airways, the Madurai-based full-business class airline, has joined the race for Gurgaon-based low-cost carrier SpiceJet. According to sources, the Madurai-based all-business class airline, the only domestic flier that is making cash profits, is in talks for a possible buyout. Jet Airways and Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), too, are reportedly eyeing a controlling stake in SpiceJet.
